We hired our very first babysitter last night to go have a blast at the Sun's game. It was a little scary. We (I) paid her more than we (I) could afford. I justified this to my husband by telling him if we pay her more, she'll want to be a better babysitter so we'll ask her to come back again. Like going out to eat? The more you pay, the better you expect the food to be? The food is my childcare, the restaurant is us, and the money is quickly making its way from our bank account.....
We came home to a leak in the ceiling (after just completing 5 months of fixing the last leak), and then after settling into bed, and finally drifting into sweet slumber, JERKED awake suddenly at the rude sound of the smoke alarms at 1 AM. For an hour we listened to the foghorn blow in our eardrum as we frantically made phone calls (WHO do you call, I ask?), googled, and unplugged every smoke detector in the house. I think that's illegal. Although I don't understand why it is, since it didn't work and they got louder with each attempt. After an hour, it just stopped, for no reason, and we suspiciously made our way back to bed. I twitched at remembering the sound for another hour before I fell asleep.
The Lundeen's had a themed Christmas this year. Dan in Real Life.

and btw, we've totally had the smoke detector thing. it is OBNOXIOUS.
we have never hired a babysitter because it scares the crap out of me, i'm too cheap, and we luckily have obliging family members that we happen to live with... with the exception of when i was in a wedding in NYC and no kids were allowed and i paid a girl named rosa i'd never met something like $150 to watch my children in a high rise hotel for two hours. that was fun. what i'm trying to say is, good job on hiring a babysitter!
Awkward is the understatement of the century. Just kidding, Jen and I are already practicing our tandem routine for 2012. Thanks for the inspiration.
