started my first yoga class today.
Some of you may know that Cole and I are caretakers (in the loosest sense of the word) to one of my best friends. Some of you may also know I’m not a very good friend, but that’s beside the point. More of you may know that I am a perfectionist. And most of you know that I am emotional.
Because we manage the property (in the loosest sense of the term), and also because we want my friend to move back here someday, we don’t bother her with the small things and decisions she would have to make if she lived here, so as to entice her that living is Arizona is SOOOOO much less maintenance than living in Utah (who even likes being freezing cold anyway?). So, when the dinky lawnmower breaks that only held 7 blades of grass anyway, we don’t bother telling her she needs to buy a new one, since her yard is bigger than both of the houses we grew up in, combined. We, also, don’t buy one ourselves, because, well, why would we. And when something breaks, we try to figure it out ourselves instead of hire someone with a greater understanding of all things dishwasher and roof and fire alarm and water main and pool heater and vegetation.
So Thursday I get a call from the realtor, lets call her Lessthankindrea. She wanted to know if she could show the house. later that day.
uhhhhh, no, you cannot show the house because it looks terrible and we haven’t borrowed the lawnmower from the neighbors and Cole is at work and the garage (which was the main selling point for the buyers) looks like there was an explosion, not to mention I was just finishing a project which included taking apart a desk and spray painting it and the roofers haven’t fixed the leak yet and there’s yellow paint all over the floor and a pile of frostbitten lantanna bigger than Mt. St. Helens along the back wall that Cole hasn’t ignited yet.
Yep, sure, come on by. see you in two hours.
needless to say, I took Smith on a walk so that Lessthankindrea didn’t see me crying in my sweaty, exhausted, out-of-breath, unshowered glory at how bad the house STILL looked.
