today I learned.
I just finished book numero 2 (Mansfield Park) on my new Kindle. Oh how I love my kindle. Although it does seriously interfere with reading the last page first, which is my favorite thing.
What is it about Jane Austen that captivates me so? How does she consume my mind with her pen? Even when the middle of the book is dragging and I don't care about some stupid play, I can’t put it down! No, I know why. Its because I’m a sucker for a love story.
I felt slightly a pervert when I was rooting for her and her cousin to fall in love. And I didn't even have the last page to stop myself!
My goal this year was to read 5 new books. Apparently I low-balled my attention span.
Last year I wrote down about 20 goals for 2010 and promptly forgot about them. One of said goals was to write down one thing every day that I learned as a first time mom. I thought it a quite brilliant idea. When I read it again in 2011, I was again struck with its brilliance, but alas, totally bummed that I had forgotten it. I immediately started my learning journal that day, but there is something to be said for the classroom called home for a first time mom that I'll never get back again. Blast!
Here’s a few things I've written down in the past two weeks:
1.10.11
Today I learned not to give peanut butter crunchy granola bars (organic or not, inside the WRAPPER or not) to babies (especially someone else's) who have teeth. It will only end in disaster by ingested peanuts.
1.11.11
Just because you put your baby to bed later, doesn’t mean he sleeps later the next morning.
1.13.11
Being a sick mother is awful. There is something inherently wrong when your child cries and you can’t hold him. Not only can’t, but shouldn’t. Mother’s weren’t made to be in bed all day and night.
1.14.11
Today I learned that 9 month olds are not made for movies. Especially slow, boring western ones. especially slow boring western ones that start at his exact bedtime. Especially slow, boring western ones that start at his exact bedtime and are on date nights that should not include babies anyway. Luckily, the movie across the hall (Tangled) saved us for about 30 minutes. Thank you Disney. I learned today how much I’ve missed you.
Because I seriously biffed on last year’s goals, I made another goal in relation to the (failed) previous goal: to make a canvas with my goals on it, so I can refer to them every day.
I want them to look something like this:

I think I like the top one more....what do you think? Do you have any canvas prints you love? share them with me!

next time just ask us to watch him for us... no waiting for us to take the hint. "Seriously"
i read the last page first too! why are we seriously not real life friends? except it appears that you did not love true grit. but you did love tangled and i loved it too.
Don't even tell me that said movie was "True Grit" because that was a great movie. You must have been talking about Aliens vs Cowboys or something, right? How could you not like TG? P.S. Tangled was cute too...
Pss. Really like the new blog layout.
Brilliant ideas. First time mother memories = brilliant, making goals = brilliant, turning said goals into an artistic canvas = even more brilliant.
I think I need a kindle.
Thanks for inspiring me, maybe I should actually sit down and make some goals for 2011?
