a year in the life of smith james

technically this was my first full year ever.  and it rocked.  probably because my parents are so awesome.

January
I learned how to pull myself up and I got pink eye for the first time
february
but I still mostly crawled everywhere I went
march
I learned how to use my tongue and I got my first pair of skinny jeans.  my mom cried when I grew out of them.  I started saying "baww" and then I started to throw everything that remotely resembled a ball.  usually at your face. and my favorite thing to do was point out airplanes in the sky.  jimmer was a big deal.

April
thanks to my mom's new camera and her photography class, I learned to be a complete ham.  i also went to town on feeding myself and it was exhausting.  my mom took zero pictures of my birthday party but a zillion birthday pictures.  stroller rides around the community with my mom on rollerblades was the best.  rollerblades are so in right now.  mom attempted my first hair cut.  at least I got rid of my mullet?

may
I learned the art of the cheesy smile.  we moved from Mesa to Tempe for the summer and I learned I love eating peaches right off the tree.

june
lake powell trip numero one.  I learned in the arms of my mom and dad that my life jacket most definitely did NOT work.  so we bought a new one that after much protesting, we discovered its reliability as a flotation device that keeps my face out of the water.  I learned to kiss and hug every other little kid.  castle loved it.  most every other little friend did NOT love the disregard for the personal bubble.  I would build blocks up all day long just to knock them down and laugh my head off.  and I got SUPER good at making car sounds and driving them backward off of tables and chairs.

july
all i remember is that it was HOT.  but I never complained, I just spent most of the day at Castle's house, in her pool in the back yard.  went to san diego with my cousins and absolutely LOVED the water and the sand.  and throwing balls into the water, then into the sand.  then at someone's face.  seriously though, check out those pecks.  I began my obsession with dunking.  went to the falcon field commemorative air force museum in Mesa.  I loved it.  so much so that I just lay on the floor, staring up at the airplanes, most the whole time.  rode my first horse in St. Johns for the 24th of July.  I think I may be a cowboy in the making.  my first real haircut from Oma.  mom got me a potty.  and I used it for everything.  except, that is, going to the bathroom.

august
we moved again.  this time we moved in with Oma and Papa while mom and dad looked for a house.  reading is my new favorite thing.  everyone has to read books with me for hours but they don't mind.  especially Oma.  I've got Oma and Papa wrapped around my finger.  I found my belly button and pretty much insisted on sticking my finger into everyone else's too.  I started my tradition of mowing the lawn with dad every Saturday.  he pretty much can't do it without me.

september
lake powell trip #2 and the most spectacular firework show.  never mind, I was in bed for that part.  but my mom and dad said it was awesome.  got my own basketball hoop and within two weeks I could make a basket by myself, and papa and dad showed me how to follow through.  I learned animal sounds.  I even learned what a bunny says.

October
Halloween as a skeleton and as superman.  I had zero interest in candy, just following all the other kids around from door to door.

november
first tastes of thanksgiving at the Lundeens' could NOT have been better.  great grandma diney came into town and I think I like her even better than her brother (if that's possible!).  little einstein was my favorite show to watch.  It was the only way I would be still for any significant amount of time.  and still I was.

december
best. ever.
I got to go to santa's workshop and make toys and go to Brianhead, UT with my cousins.  and besides not being able to move with all my gear on, I loved the snow.  All you really need to know for the rest of December and through the beginning of this new year is that I got a blower and an electric car for Christmas and I can be found at any time with one (or both!  the blower likes to ride in back.).

What a sweet post Rem. I can't believe how much he's grown this year! Isn't it crazy to think how much he'll grow in the next year?

A lawn mower and a blower? That is one lucky boy.
