Now that I've forever abandoned movies (unless you can recommend one that will rebuild my faith in Hollywood), I'll be spending much more time reading. Which I am more than okay with.
Any suggestions from the blogger-world? Lets have your fave. I want to read it.
Ones that I've recently read: Pride and Prejudice, Accross Five Aprils, Twilight series, Harry Potters, and Chronicles of Narnia for the fiction. As for my favorite, cool biographies or autos- Lone Survivor, The Hiding Place, Left to Tell, Three Against Hitler.
I love true inspiring stories the most, and self-help inspiring is okay as well. If there are any that have just knocked your socks off, I want to hear about them!

I just finished "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas". Its a really sweet book about 2 little boys from the Holocaust era. You'll love it.
Secret Life of Bees, The Women of Genesis series, The Kite Runner, A Thousand Splendid Suns, Remembering Wholeness (one of my personal Faves!!!), Feelings Buried Alive Never Die, Fancy Nancy (Lennon's recommendation), and of course, the must read of the year, The Importance of Washing Your Bed Linens and Other Fun Factoids About Cleanliness...
Oh~ another favorite of mine. The Glass Castle by Jeanette Wahls. True story that will make you laugh and break your heart. A definate must read.
If you liked Harry Potter you might like Ender's Game. I just started reading it, but I've heard from quite a few people that the whole series is pretty good.
Les Miserables. To Kill a MockingBird,
This is my list:
Team of Rivals.
War and Peace.
Autobiography -franklin
Some of my recent favorites include:
-A Thousand Splendid Suns, by Khaled Hosseini
-Manhunt: The 12-Day Chase for Lincoln's Killer (nonfiction), by James Swanson
-Mere Christianity, by C.S. Lewis
-Deception Point, by Dan Brown(and of course Angels & Demons and the Da Vinci Code, by the same author)
-The Peacegiver, by James Ferrell
-Les Miserables, by Victor Hugo
-The Golden Compass trilogy, by Philip Pullman
-The Count of Monte Cristo, by Alexandre Dumas
-The Host, by Stephenie Meyer
and if you're in a silly mood, the Confessions of a Shopaholic series are really lighthearted & fun.
Pass along any of your recommendations! :)
Books and I are currently on a break. When we get back together, I will come here and steal this mammoth list of recommendations.
You have good friends, Rem.
The Poisonwood Bible.
Wuthering Heights.
The Pact.
I totally agree with randi up there, The Ender series by Orson Scott Card is fantastic. I know you have a lot of suggestions already, but you HAVE to give Jodi Picoult a chance. I haven't read all of her books, but every one that I've read are excellent.
These are especially riveting:
My Sister's Keeper
Second Glance
The Pact
A Change of Heart
Gone with the Wind - my classic favorite. Crossing to Safety - one of the loveliest books ever written, I'm sure of it.
(I'm a friend of Kevin's, a fan of Whitney's and that's how I'm here to you. Just putting together the pieces. I'm SO with you on movies by the way. Ew. Never see He's Just Not That Into You. Never)
The Fablehaven series. They are young adult fiction(my favorite because most of the time you don't have to worry about nasty things in them) There are four books(out of five)currently out and I think they are pretty fun. They are written by Brandon Mull and they are in the same catagory as Harry Potter. As a side note, Brandon Mull is LDS!
Rem, first of all I love that you made this request because now I have a whole new list of books to choose from!
Second, a quick two cents about some of the books mentioned.
The Glass Castle is a good one, and I'm sure you trust Linda, but it's pretty disturbing in some ways. The kids are molested a number of times and ways and although she's not very graphic about what happens, the images still stick in your mind.
I've never read any Jodi Picoult and I know that a lot of people really like her books, but Julie read a couple of them and I guess there's some language that you get to deal with.
I'm currently reading Outliers. It's a book your dad recommended to Ky and so far it's really good. I'm also a huge fan of the Work and the Glory. Kind of a lot to swallow (9 600+ page) books, but they're well-written and a really fun way to learn more church history.
Also, there's a book called "I am Mother". I can't remember who the author is but that is a great one!
If I think of any others I'll let you know!
Every book I think of makes me sound less intelligent, so for my reputations sake, I'll have to pass.
Hi Remi- you don't know me but I know your hubby and his family. I don't normally comment but I had a book suggestion. The Anita Stansfield collection that starts with In Search of Heaven is excellent. If you want to borrow them I can get them to Robyn. Also, her "dance" series that starts with A timeless Waltz, A time to dance, and 2 others is excellent. It's a little older and I don't think I have all of those to loan but I can look to see what I have if you are interested.
hi remi, it looks like you already have lots of book recommendations so i will make an attempt to restore your faith in the uplifting potential of film. here are some of my faves.
i don't think any of these have a rating of r
The Color of Paradise
Children of Heaven
Like water for Chocolate
Amelie
The Chorus
i'll stop now, but if you enjoy these i have lots more for you! i love you -good luck with the job search.
This might be late to comment- but I check your blog every once in awhile since I you gave it to me at Powell- but you gotta read (if you haven't) Angels and Demons before it comes to the movies then maybe try the movie again.
Wow. I miss you. I have a list of books. I will post them shortly. We will be in Utah soon! :):) Closer to AZ then here!:)
